How to Verify Your Coverage

  • 1
Call our office at (301) 797-7600. Our billing team can confirm whether your plan is in-network and estimate any expected copays or deductibles.
  • 2
Contact your insurer directly. Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask if Mir Neurology is in-network for neurology services.
  • 3
Schedule your appointment. Once coverage is confirmed, our team will help you choose the best appointment time at our Hagerstown or Cumberland office.

Referrals

Some insurance plans require a referral from your primary care physician (PCP) before seeing a specialist. If your plan requires a referral, please request one from your PCP before scheduling your first appointment at Mir Neurology.

If you are unsure whether a referral is needed, our staff can help guide you through this process. Simply call us at (301) 797-7600 and we will clarify your plan's requirements.

Self-Pay Options

If you do not have insurance, or if your plan does not cover the neurological care you need, Mir Neurology offers self-pay options. We are committed to making neurological care as accessible as possible for patients in our community.

Please contact our office to discuss self-pay rates and payment arrangements before your appointment.

Medicare & Neurology — Frequently Asked Questions

Mir Neurology is currently accepting new Medicare patients at both our Hagerstown and Cumberland offices. Here are answers to common questions about Medicare coverage for neurology care.

Does Medicare cover neurologist visits?

Yes. Medicare Part B covers outpatient neurology visits when they are medically necessary. You will typically pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount after your Part B deductible is met, and a supplemental (Medigap) plan can help cover this cost-sharing.

Does Medicare cover EEG and EMG testing?

Yes. Both EEG (brain wave) testing and EMG/nerve conduction studies are covered by Medicare Part B when ordered by a physician for a covered diagnosis. These tests are performed in our office and billed directly to Medicare.

Do I need a referral to see a neurologist under Medicare?

Under Original Medicare (Parts A and B), you generally do not need a referral to see a specialist. However, some Medicare Advantage plans require a referral from your primary care physician first. Check your plan's requirements, or call us and we can help clarify.

Is Mir Neurology accepting new Medicare patients?

Yes. We are currently accepting new Medicare patients at both our Cumberland and Hagerstown locations, and same-week appointments are often available. Call (301) 797-7600 to schedule.

What should I bring to my first neurology appointment?

Please bring your Medicare card, a list of all current medications and dosages, any prior imaging (MRI or CT scans) on disc if available, and a list of your symptoms and questions. Arriving 15 minutes early helps us complete any new-patient paperwork.
